Half of Joe Biden’s Twitter followers FAKE, audit finds

USA: A recent audit done for the social media giant by software firm SparkToro revealed that 49.3% of Joe Biden’s 22.2 million Twitter followers are “fake followers,” according to Newsweek.

The number is staggering, especially after Elon Musk's recent claim about Twitter's credibility. Musk believes that 20% accounts on Twitter are fake and vowed to not conclude his $44 billion purchase of the social media giant until the issue is resolved.

According to SparkToro, “fake followers” are “accounts that are unreachable and will not see the account’s tweets (either because they’re spam, bots, propaganda, etc. or because they’re no longer active on Twitter).”

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is on the verge of buying Twitter, had already expressed concern about the increasing fake accounts and also proposed a potential crackdown on the sham accounts. Musk said “My offer was based on Twitter’s SEC filings being accurate.” He also revealed an important information after speaking with Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, “Yesterday, Twitter’s CEO publicly refused to show proof of <5%. This deal cannot move forward until he does.”

Parag immediately fired back at the world’s richest man, claiming that Twitter suspends over half a million spam accounts daily and flags millions of suspicious accounts.

On further investigation, SparkToro found that nearly 70.2% of Elon Musk’s 93.3 million Twitter followers were fake.
