Strong storms & possible tornadoes to hit Germany

Berlin, Germany: On Thursday, Deutschland's national weather service warned that the western and northwestern regions could see heavy storms, with a possibility of tornadoes.

The forecast suggests heavy rain and hail, with some areas seeing gusts of up to 100 kph (62 mph).

A storm moving eastward from neighboring France could result in “extreme” rainfall in central regions. Following July 2021 deadly flash flood that hit parts of Germany and Belgium, the authorities are on high alert.

Like many of the European countries, Germany has experienced a warmer and drier spring than usual combined with little rainfall and lots of sunshine.

Meteorologists also said that the storm could form so-called supercells and increase the risk of tornadoes.
