Xbox versus PlayStation: Giants clash over Call of Duty
Xbox owner Microsoft has hit back at claims its plan to buy the maker of Call of Duty may unfairly affect its rivals, including Sony, which owns PlayStation. Microsoft wants to buy Activision Blizzard, which also makes Overwatch and Candy Crush, for $68.7 billion (£59.2 billion ). The UK watchdog looking into the plan has said Microsoft could use Activision games to "out-compete" its rivals.

The external power supply to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) in Ukraine has been restored after an outage that forced it to switch to diesel generators.

Iran sees ‘major’ internet disruption amid renewed protests
The demonstrations over the death of Mahsa Amini have become one of the greatest challenges to Iran’s theocracy since the country’s 2009 Green Movement protests. Demonstrators have included oil workers, high school students and women marching without their mandatory headscarf, or hijab.

Peru's embattled president Pedro Castillo faces fresh legal battle
Attorney General Patricia Benavides accused Mr Castillo of leading a corruption ring. The president has denied any wrongdoing and says it is an attempt by his political rivals to unseat him. He has already survived two impeachment attempts since taking office last year.

French oil workers vote to continue strike
Industrial action to demand pay rises has paralysed six out of seven fuel refineries in France, leading to shortages of petrol and diesel exacerbated by panic-buying from drivers. Having previously threatened to use emergency powers enabling them to order essential workers back to the job, the government announced Wednesday that it would put them into use as the strikes entered their third week.

2,560-pound pumpkin wins California contest; sets record
A horticulture teacher from Minnesota set a new U.S. record Monday for the heaviest pumpkin after raising a giant gourd weighing 2,560 pounds. Travis Gienger, of Anoka, Minnesota set the new record and won an annual pumpkin-weighing contest in Northern California.
