Sweden's new foreign minister has ditched its pioneering "feminist foreign policy", saying the label has become more important than its content. But Tobias Billstrom said "we will always stand for gender equality".
The previous left-wing government launched the policy in 2014, becoming the first in the world to put gender equality at the heart of its dealings with other nations. The self-labelled "feminist government" had ruffled feathers globally.
Ms Rekabi wore only a headband during the Asian Championships in Seoul on Sunday, in what was seen by some as a gesture of solidarity with month-long protests in Iran over the death of Ms Mahsa Amini after her arrest for allegedly violating the Islamic dress rules.
The move was a breach of the Islamic republic’s mandatory dress rules of compulsory headscarf for women, which also apply to all female athletes when competing abroad.
Pulitzer-winning photojournalist from Kashmir, Sanna Irshad Mattoo has said that she was stopped from travelling to the US at Delhi’s IGI airport. Mattoo was awarded the Pulitzer for her coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic for the news agency Reuters. She was on her way to attend the award ceremony when she was stopped. Mattoo said no reason was given for stopping her and “despite having a valid visa and ticket” she wasn’t allowed to travel. The Indian government has not made any statement regarding the incident.
Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military seized power from the elected civilian government of Aung San Suu Kyi last year, triggering nationwide peaceful protests that security forces suppressed with deadly force. The repression led to widespread armed resistance, which has since turned into what some U.N. experts have characterized as civil war.
About 2,367 civilians have died in a crackdown on resistance, according to detailed lists compiled by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, a rights watchdog group.

Ethiopia's national army has captured three towns in the northern region of Tigray, where it has been battling regional forces on and off for two years, the government said on Tuesday.
The conflict pitting the Ethiopian military and their allies, who include Eritrean troops, against the Tigray forces has killed thousands, displaced millions and left hundreds of thousands on the brink of famine.
