China aims to ship 25 million virtual reality devices by 2026
It was published by five ministries in Beijing, led by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and categorised virtual reality as a key industry for the digital economy under the country’s 14th five-year plan.
The paper includes augmented reality and mixed reality in its definition of virtual reality.
This first action plan reflects Beijing’s ambition to lead the world in virtual technology and sets detailed goals.
It did not specify whether the 25 million devices target referred to annual or accumulative shipments between now and 2026.

Indian students say Canada is exploiting them for "Cheap Labor"
Last year, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government allowed about 50,000 foreign students to stay for 18 months after graduation to seek employment, during a time when the economy was reopening from Covid shutdowns and companies needed to hire.
The government sold the permit extension as a way to "help more graduates fill pressing needs" in key sectors and allow them to gain the work experience needed to immigrate permanently. But a year and half later, some of these permanent-resident hopefuls were left without status to work or remain in the country.

Israel elections: Netanyahu seeks return to power
In this latest election, former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is pushing for a comeback with the support of the political far-right in Israel. Last year, Netanyahu's government was ousted after 12 years by a coalition Lapid helped form.
Long an influential voice in Israeli politics and journalism, Lapid preciously served as the finance minister under Netanyahu. He now hopes to stay on as prime minister along with his centrist Yesh Atid party.
Netanyahu, facing corruption charges, has seen many former allies distance themselves from him. In an effort to bolster his chances for victory, Netanyahu has sought support from the far-right leader, Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Nigeria at 'high risk' of Ebola spread from Uganda
The West African country does not share a common border with Uganda.
However, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says the high level of risk to the country is due to the "large volume of air travel between Nigeria and Uganda and the mixing of passengers, especially at the regional travel hubs of Nairobi, Addis Ababa and Kigali airports".
The health authorities say they are on alert, with a number of measures put in place to "prevent and mitigate the impact of a potential Ebola outbreak in Nigeria".

Italy's right-wing government to criminalise rave parties
The new crime of "invasion for dangerous gatherings" of more than 50 people would attract up to six years in jail and opens up the possibility of wiretapping rave organisers.
A thousand ravers were ordered to leave a warehouse rave in Modena on Monday.
"The party's over!" declared far-right minister Matteo Salvini.
Residents had complained of 48 hours of non-stop techno music at the Halloween party that attracted young ravers via social media from nearby Italian cities as well as Belgium and France.
