South Koreans demand justice for Itaewon dead
On 29 October, a deadly crowd crush killed 156 people - mostly young people - and injured another 196 during Halloween festivities in the nightlife district of Itaewon.
One week on, the authorities have launched an investigation, raiding municipal offices and local police and fire stations.
The national police chief has apologised, as has President Yoon Suk-yeol, who has vowed to improve crowd control measures in the future.
But it has not been enough to slake the public thirst for justice. Many feel a deep sense of shame that authorities have failed to protect its young - an irony for a country known for its youthful, K-pop driven image on the international stage.

Hundreds of elephants, zebras die as Kenya weathers drought
The Kenya Wildlife Service and other bodies counted the deaths of 205 elephants, 512 wildebeests, 381 common zebras, 51 buffalos, 49 Grevy’s zebras and 12 giraffes in the past nine months, the report states.
Parts of Kenya have experienced four consecutive seasons with inadequate rain in the past two years, with dire effects for people and animals, including livestock.

North Korea fires more missiles as US flies bombers over South
The North has test-fired more than 30 missiles this week, including an intercontinental ballistic missile on Thursday that triggered evacuation alerts in northern Japan, and flew large numbers of warplanes inside its territory in an angry reaction to a massive combined aerial exercise between the United States and South Korea.

Fiji, Samoa, France, Ireland top pools at Hong Kong Sevens
The major casualty of the group round was New Zealand, managing only third place in Pool A. New Zealand lost 24-0 to Samoa in the first round of pool matches Friday and completed the pool stage Saturday with a 24-17 loss to Australia. It will now play Kenya in the playoffs for ninth place.
Samoa was the surprise packet in pool play, beating New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong to top Pool A. Its win over New Zealand ended a five-match losing streak against the All Blacks Sevens.

Climate activists block private jets at Amsterdam airport
The environmental group says Schiphol is the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions in the Netherlands, emitting 12 billion kilogrammes annually.
Hundreds of other demonstrators in and around the airport's main hall carried signs saying "Restrict Aviation" and "More Trains".
Responding to the protest, Schiphol said it aims to become an emissions-free airport by 2030 and supports targets for the aviation industry to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

Iran acknowledges sending drones to Russia for first time
The comments by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian come after months of confusing messaging from Iran about the weapons shipment, as Russia sends the drones slamming into Ukrainian energy infrastructure and civilian targets.
“We gave a limited number of drones to Russia months before the Ukraine war,” Amirabdollahian told reporters after a meeting in Tehran.
