Australia takes aim at Apple, Microsoft over child protection online
An Australian regulator, after using new powers to make the tech giants share information about their methods, accused Apple Inc and Microsoft Corp not doing enough to stop child exploitation content on their platforms.
The e-Safety Commissioner, an office set up to protect internet users, said that after sending legal demands for information to some of the world's biggest internet firms, the responses showed Apple and Microsoft did not proactively screen for child abuse material in their storage services, iCloud and OneDrive.

UK sees largest nursing strike in NHS history
The Royal College of Nursing said staff had been given no choice after ministers refused to reopen pay talks.
The UK government said the RCN's 19% pay rise demand was unaffordable.
The action will involve nurses in around a quarter of hospitals and community teams in England, all health boards in Northern Ireland and all but one in Wales. Nurses are not striking in Scotland.

Russian oil sold to India below price cap in buyers' market
The European Union ban on imports of Russia's seaborne oil from December 5 has driven Moscow to seek alternative markets, mainly in Asia, for about 1 million barrels per day.
Also on December 5, the Group of Seven leading economies implemented a $60 price cap on Russian seaborne oil to to try to limit Moscow's ability to finance its war in Ukraine.

Turkish court sentences Erdogan rival to jail with political ban
İmamoğlu was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison along with the ban, both of which must be confirmed by an appeals court, for insulting public officials in a speech he made after he won Istanbul’s municipal election in 2019.
Riot police were stationed outside the courthouse on the Asian side of the city of 17 million people, although İmamoğlu continued to work as usual and dismissed the court proceedings.

UN again blocks Myanmar military from taking UN seat
The decision means that Kyaw Moe Tun, who was Myanmar’s ambassador at the United Nations when the military ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi on February 1, 2021, will remain on the job.
Last December, Myanmar’s military rulers also failed in their effort to replace Tun, who remains a supporter of the previous government and the opposition National Unity Government, which opposes the junta.

Stephen "tWitch" Boss: Dancing DJ on The Ellen Show dies aged 40
Stephen "tWitch" Boss, the longtime and beloved dancing DJ on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and a former contestant on "So You Think You Can Dance," has died at the age of 40.
tWitch started his tenure at "The Ellen Show" in 2014 and later was promoted to co-executive producer in 2020.
