Ukrainian drone hits bomber base inside Russia
The attack on the Engels air base - located near the city of Saratov, about 730 km (450 miles) southeast of Moscow and hundreds of kilometres from the frontlines in Ukraine - was the second this month.
It was previously hit on Dec. 5 in what Russia said were Ukrainian drone attacks on two Russian air bases that day.

South Korea launches jets, fires shots after North flies drones
South Korea's military detected five drones from North Korea crossing the border, and one traveled as far as the northern part of the South Korean capital region, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said. 
The military responded by firing warning shots before launching fighter jets and attack helicopters to shoot down the North Korean drones. One of the aircraft, a KA-1 light attack plane, crashed during takeoff but its two pilots both ejected to safety, according to the Defense Ministry.

Algeria sets reference price for oil at $60 barrel through 2023-2025
The North African country expects inflation to reach 5.1 percent and sees economic growth at 4.1 percent in 2023, APS said.

Extreme cold, travel chaos: Woes from deadly storm continue
The extreme weather stretched from the Great Lakes near Canada to the Rio Grande along the border with Mexico. About 60% of the U.S. population faced some sort of winter weather advisory or warning, and temperatures plummeted drastically below normal from east of the Rocky Mountains to the Appalachians.
Huge snowdrifts nearly covered cars and there were thousands of houses, some adorned in unlit holiday displays, dark from a lack of power.

Protesters chant ‘No going back’ as unrest hits 100 days in Iran
The unrest began when a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini died in police custody on September 16 having been arrested and detained for breaching women’s hijab dress code.
Recently, two protesters were executed by hanging and at least 26 others face the same fate, after what Amnesty International calls “sham trials.”

Record-breaking golfer Kathy Whitworth dies at 83
Whitworth, who passed away suddenly on Christmas Eve, won 88 LPGA titles during her career – the most on any professional tour.
The six-time major winner was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1976, a year after winning the last of her three Women's PGA Championship crowns.
