In India, 5% own more than 60% of country’s wealth: Oxfam report
The report, “Survival of the Richest: The India story”, also says that between 2012 and 2021, 40 per cent of the wealth created in India has gone to just 1% of the population and only a mere 3% of the wealth has gone to the bottom 50%, adding that the total number of billionaires in India increased from 102 in 2020 to 166 billionaires in 2022.
The combined wealth of India’s 100 richest has touched $660 billion, an amount that could fund the entire Union Budget for more than 18 months, the report stated.

Global firms help Myanmar's military make weapons, says report
Companies from 13 countries, including France, Germany, China, India, Russia, Singapore and the United States, have been providing supplies that are “critical” to the production of weapons in Myanmar, the Special Advisory Council on Myanmar (SAC-M) said in a report released on Monday.
This support includes licenses, raw materials, software, parts and components, the experts said.

Italy's most-wanted mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro arrested in Sicily
Messina Denaro was sentenced in absentia to a life term for his role in the 1992 murders of anti-mafia prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino.
He also faces a life sentence for his role in bomb attacks in Florence, Rome and Milan which killed 10 people the following year.

Australian woman's record-breaking run from continent's 'tip to toe'
The 32-year-old on Monday finished her 6,300 km journey, a marathon every day for 150 days.
Ms Murray-Bartlett's effort sets a new world record for the most consecutive daily marathons by a woman.
And she has raised over $70,000 for conservation charity the Wilderness Society.

The Last of Us 'breaks curse' of game adaptations
The series is described as "comfortably the best adaptation of a video game ever made" that has been able to "break the curse" on gaming-TV crossovers.
Set in post-apocalyptic America, the Sony PlayStation franchise follows characters Joel and Ellie who are tasked with escaping.
