Jammu and Kashmir: India's first big lithium find boosts electric car hopes
The lithium deposits are critical for India as the country puts its focus on electric mobility for both public and private transport, especially in the country's prime cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, and Chennai.
India's Ministry of Mines further stated that 51 mineral blocks including Lithium and Gold were handed over to respective state governments.

Moldova's prime minister resigns and government collapses, amid ongoing crises
Gavrilita’s premiership was marked by a long string of problems. These include an acute energy crisis; skyrocketing inflation; and several troublesome incidents such as missiles from the war in neighboring Ukraine traversing its skies.
On Friday morning Ukraine's military chief confirmed a fresh incident, as two Russian cruise missiles flew over Moldova's airspace before entering Ukraine. The missiles were fired from the Black Sea, officials said.

Russia to cut oil production over price caps
The impact of a cut of 500,000 barrels per day is an open question as a slowing global economy reduces the thirst for oil.
The OPEC+ alliance of oil producers, which includes Russia, tried to boost oil prices with an October announcement that it would cut production by 2 million barrels per day, only to see prices fall below $80 per barrel by December.

Nicaraguan prisoners freed: 222 opposition figures deported to US
Ever since anti-government protests erupted in Nicaragua in 2018, President Ortega has unleashed violent repression. He has consolidated his power, squashed popular protests, thrown his political opponents in prison and hundreds of thousands of Nicaraguans have fled.
Lawyers and family members of the prisoners say they were kept in horrific conditions. Some had spent many years in jail, others were arrested in the run-up to Nicaragua's 2021 presidential elections.

Amsterdam bans cannabis in its red light district
Smoking cannabis in public will be banned in Amsterdam’s red light district from mid-May, as part of a set of policies to reduce nuisance for residents.
Rules will be toughened up on the sale of alcohol, and closing times for bars and brothels will be brought forward ‘to give residents more peace late at night,’ the city said in a press release.

South Africa declares disaster over power crisis
In recent months, state energy company Eskom has been forced to schedule power outages for up to 12 hours a day, a practice known as loadshedding.
The country's economic growth is now projected to fall to just 0.3% this year compared to 2.5% last year.
