For the first time in history, women are in every parliament around the world
Although growth in women's parliamentary representation has been a worldwide phenomenon, only a few countries are closer to achieving the next goal: gender parity.
Only six countries in the world currently have as many women in parliament – either their lower or single chamber – as they do men, as of January 1, 2023.

Strikes spread as French unions intensify pension reform fight
Macron’s proposal to make people work longer is deeply unpopular amongst the wider public, opinion polls show. Street protests are expected to take place in more than 300 towns and cities.

Venezuelans struggling to afford food - even if they have access to dollars
Hunger is a familiar specter in Venezuela, which suffered years of hyperinflation in the second half of the last decade, as the government of President Nicolas Maduro printed money to pay its debts amid a slow-down in oil prices.
Many Venezuelans were left to scour through garbage to find food, and millions fled the country to build new lives across South America and beyond.

Oklahomans head to polls for one issue: legal marijuana
The proposal, if passed, would allow anyone over the age of 21 to purchase and possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana, plus concentrates and marijuana-infused products. People could also legally grow up to 12 marijuana plants. Recreational sales would be subjected to a 15% excise tax on top of the standard sales tax. The excise tax would be used to help fund local municipalities, the court system, public schools, substance abuse treatment and the state’s general revenue fund.

Norway is gearing up to open Europe’s longest cycle tunnel
The tunnel cuts through the Løvstakken mountain in the southwest Norwegian city, linking the residential areas of Fyllingsdalen and Mindemyren. Cyclists can continue on to the centre of Bergen using existing routes.
Both the Fyllingsdal tunnel and the rest of the cycle route to Bergen city centre are financed through the municipality’s state-supported Miljøløftet (Environmental Promise).

Fight against insurgents: Burkina Faso announces curfew
Burkina Faso has taken up the fight against jihadist violence head-on, particularly after demanding the departure of French troops from Operation Sabre, which have been present in the West African country since 2009 without any success.
Since 2022, the French presence has been increasingly questioned in Burkina Faso, as in many other African nations, eager to regain control of their sovereignty.
