New Zealand ships last livestock as ban takes effect
The government announced in 2021 that shipping animals offshore, largely for building herds in trading partners like China, would be halted but farmers would be given two years to transition out of the profitable export business.
Live exports by sea have contributed about 0.32 per cent of New Zealand’s primary sector export revenue, which includes farming and mining, since 2015.

Indian medical students brave war to study in Ukraine
The drive to become qualified doctors is greater than their fear of war. Abandoning their studies would mean losing the last four years of education. It would also mean they had spent around €4,500 a year on university costs with nothing to show for it. In India, a similar course would cost around €10,000 a year. University officials say they are doing their best to keep the students safe.

U.S. Supreme Court preserves broad access to abortion pill
The US Supreme Court on Friday blocked new restrictions set by lower courts on a widely used abortion pill. The order delivered a victory to President Joe Biden's administration as it defends broad access to the drug in the latest fierce legal battle over reproductive rights in the US. The judge's order would greatly limit the availability of mifepristone while litigation proceeds in a challenge by anti-abortion groups to its federal regulatory approval.

Putin discusses OPEC+ deal in call with Saudi Crown Prince
The two expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the two countries to bring stability to the global oil market, the Kremlin said in a readout of the call. Putin and the Crown Prince also forged close business relations.

Comoros refuses to accept migrants from Mayotte as row with Paris heats up
The Indian Ocean archipelago of the Comoros vowed Friday not to accept migrants expelled from the neighbouring French island of Mayotte in a looming operation that has caused a diplomatic spat.
Authorities in Mayotte are expected to launch Operation Wuambushu ("Take Back") next week to remove illegal migrants who have settled in slums on the island. Those without papers are to be sent back to the Comoran island of Anjouan, 70 kilometres (45 miles) away.

Mexico migrant camp tents torched across border from Texas
The fires were set Wednesday and Thursday at the sprawling camp of about 2,000 people, most of them from Venezuela, Haiti and Mexico, in Matamoros, a city near Brownsville, Texas. An advocate for migrants said they had been doused with gasoline.
