Russia’s war in Ukraine reaches the 500-day mark
Saturday marks 500 days since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022. Peace talks are a long way off as both sides look to improve their hand, with Ukrainians trying to recapture as much territory as they can and Russia intent on holding it.
Fears of a nuclear disaster have increased, particularly this week after Ukraine and Russia accused each other of planning to attack one of the world’s largest atomic power plants.

Netherlands to return treasures to Indonesia and Sri Lanka
A range of jewellery, precious metals and a richly decorated cannon are set to be returned by the Netherlands, as part of hundreds of cultural artefacts and art which were looted in Indonesia and Sri Lanka, both former Dutch colonies.

Peru declares emergency as Ubinas volcano spews ash
Peru declared a state of emergency for 60 days around Ubinas volcano. The ash has traveled up to some 5,500 meters into the atmosphere. The smoke cloud has traveled over towns that are 10 kilometers away from the volcano.
