Australia suffers flash floods in southeast, Melbourne suburb evacuated
The flooding has been worst in the state of Victoria so far, with southern parts of New South Wales and northern parts of the island state of Tasmania also witnessing incessant rain. Some regions have taken more than a month's worth of rain since Wednesday, according to officials.

Musk says SpaceX cannot fund Ukraine's Starlink internet indefinitely
Musk's comment on the question of support for the internet service in Ukraine comes after he angered many Ukrainians with a proposal to end Russia's war in their country that included ceding some territory. "SpaceX is not asking to recoup past expenses, but also cannot fund the existing system indefinitely *and* send several thousand more terminals that have data usage up to 100X greater than typical households. This is unreasonable," Musk said on Twitter. The billionaire boss of Tesla said Starlink was spending nearly $20 million US a month, he called it a "burn," for maintaining satellite services in Ukraine. He recently said that SpaceX had spent about $80 million to enable and support Starlink in Ukraine.

Jamaica bans music and TV glorifying crime
The new rules cover TV and radio - including music - and list specific topics that are off-limits. Scamming, drug abuse and the illegal use of firearms cannot be "promoted" - and swearing or "near-sounding" replacements are also banned. But the strict nature of the ban has been criticised by some artists who argue music is a reflection of life. It comes amid high levels of violent crime in Jamaica - in 2021, the island nation had one of the highest murder rates in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Russia to evacuate Kherson residents as Ukraine advances
The Moscow-installed leader of Kherson, one of four regions illegally annexed by Russian President Vladimir Putin last month, asked the Kremlin to organize an evacuation from four cities, citing incessant shelling by Ukrainian forces. Vladimir Saldo, the head of the Moscow-appointed regional administration, said a decision was made to evacuate Kherson residents to the Russian regions of Rostov, Krasnodar and Stavropol, as well as to the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

The North Korean moves suggest it would keep up a provocative run of weapons tests designed to bolster its nuclear capability for now. Some experts say North Korea would eventually want the United States and others to accept it as a nuclear state, lifting economic sanctions and making other concessions.

Thousands of dead crabs wash up on Zanzibar beaches
The mystery of thousands of dead crabs and lobsters that were found washing up on the North East shores might finally be solved. Experts who spent months carrying out tests say they believe the creatures died as a result of a natural algae. An investigation was launched by The Environment Agency after the crustaceans were discovered on several beaches stretching over several miles in Redcar, Saltburn, Seaton Carew and Seaham.
