Dina Boluarte: Peru has first female president after dramatic impeachment
Peruvian politician Dina Boluarte has been sworn in as interim president, hours after Pedro Castillo was removed in an impeachment trial and arrested during a day of high political drama in the Andean nation.
Boluarte, elevated from vice president, becomes Peru's first ever female president, following Castillo's attempt on Wednesday to dissolve the legislature by decree to avoid the impeachment vote, which sparked a wave of resignations by ministers and criticism from allies.

Vladimir Putin: Nuclear risk is rising, but we are not mad
The Russian president insisted that his country would only use weapons of mass destruction in response to an attack.
Speaking at Russia's annual human rights council meeting, he also said the war in Ukraine could be a "lengthy process".
Western officials believe Putin initially planned for a rapid victory.

Elon Musk turns Twitter into 'hotel' for staff
An ex-worker said new Twitter boss Elon Musk has been staying at the headquarters since he bought the firm.
He last month emailed all Twitter staff saying they "will need to be extremely hardcore" to succeed.
San Francisco's Department of Building Inspection has confirmed it is investigating potential violations following a complaint.

Umar Patek: Anger and fear in Australia as Bali bomber freed
Umar Patek was a member of an Al Qaeda-linked group that detonated two bombs outside a Bali bar and nightclub in October 2002, killing 202 people - including 88 Australians.
Patek was released on parole on Wednesday, Indonesian authorities confirmed, despite repeated pleas from the Australian government to keep him behind bars.

Sri Lanka's children go hungry as food prices soar
UNICEF estimates approximately 56,000 children in the country are suffering from severe acute malnutrition.
Around a third of Sri Lankan households do not have a secure source of food and almost 70% are reducing meal sizes, according to the latest World Food Program figures.
