Qatar corruption scandal engulfs European Parliament after arrest wave
Following a series of searches and arrests over the weekend, a Belgian court charged four people with “participation in a criminal organization, money laundering and corruption.”
Two MEPs as well as the family of a former MEP in Italy are said to be at the center of the scandal.
The latter were allegedly offered a $105,000 holiday to Qatar in return for promoting the country’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup.

Chilean lawmakers reach agreement to start work on new constitution
The agreement would see the new constitution drafted over next year by a body of 50 so-called constitutional advisors elected by direct vote, based on a preliminary draft prepared by a commission of 24 experts.
It would be submitted for referendum in November or December next year, with mandatory public participation.
It comes after Chileans voted in September against a proposed new constitution that would have been one of the world's most progressive charters, leading President Gabriel Boric to reshuffle his cabinet.

India, China troops clash in Arunachal, "Minor Injuries" on both sides
The face-off took place at the Tawang Sector of Arunachal Pradesh. Chinese troops crossed the LAC, which was contested by Indian soldiers in a "firm and resolute manner".
This is the first time in a long time that such clashes have been reported between Indian and Chinese troops since skirmishes at Eastern Ladakh.

Apple's Japan investment crosses $100 bln, CEO Cook visits chip epicentre
In a statement, Apple said it had boosted its spending on suppliers in Japan by more than 30% since 2019, with a network spanning nearly 1,000 companies, from multi-nationals to family-run businesses.
It called Sony Group Corp one of its biggest suppliers in Japan for providing camera sensors for iPhone products, while also mentioning medium- and small enterprises including textile firm Inoue Ribbon Industry Co and mold manufacturer Shincron Co as partners.

Disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried arrested in The Bahamas after charges filed in US
News of his arrest came one day before US lawmakers were scheduled to grill Bankman-Fried over FTX’s disastrous collapse on Capitol Hill in Washington DC on Tuesday.
Hours before he was nabbed, Bankman-Fried had said he would be testifying remotely before the House Financial Services Committee because he was “quite overbooked” and had security concerns about traveling to DC.

Supporters of Brazil's defeated Bolsonaro attack police headquarters
Brasilia’s public security secretariat said that the unrest began after police carried out a temporary arrest warrant for Indigenous leader and Bolsonaro supporter José Acácio Serere Xavante, on suspicion of participating in anti-democratic protests.
Since Lula won the election run-off on October 30, Bolsonaro has failed to concede, and some of his supporters have gathered outside military barracks across the country, demanding the armed forces intervene.
