Asia's El Chapo 'Tse Chi Lop' extradited to Australia
Chinese-born Canadian Tse Chi Lop, 59, is suspected of being the leader of an Asian mega-cartel known as Sam Gor, a major global producer and supplier of methamphetamines.
He is expected to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday to answer a charge of "conspiracy to traffic commercial quantities of controlled drugs" after being extradited from the Netherlands.

Reindeer herders fear Arctic industry boom
Thick fluffy snow usually falls from November onwards, but the start of this winter was mild, with rain and sleet instead. This freezes quickly and makes it harder for reindeer to graze on lichen, their major food source.

Guardian newspaper hit by suspected ransomware attack
Other news organizations have suffered security breaches in recent months. Fast Company was forced offline for eight days amid a cyberattack that saw hackers deliver obscene push notifications through Apple News. The New York Post, meanwhile, claimed in October that a rogue employee took over its website and Twitter accounts and was the culprit behind racist and sexist posts.

Serial killer The Serpent, Charles Sobhraj, to be freed from Nepal jail
Sobhraj, 78, a French citizen born to an Indian father and a Vietnamese mother, is suspected of robbing and killing at least 20 western backpackers along the “hippie trail” in Asia during the 1970s.
He had been held in a high-security jail since 2003 after being convicted of the 1975 murder in Kathmandu of Connie Jo Bronzich, an American backpacker. He was later convicted of murdering Ms Bronzich’s Canadian friend Laurent Carriere in the same year.
