Mexico captures son of 'El Chapo' sparking wave of violence
Mexican security forces captured on Thursday drug cartel leader Ovidio Guzman, a son of jailed kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, triggering a wave of violence ahead of a visit by U.S. President Joe Biden next week.
The violence took place largely in the city of Culiacan in the northern Sinaloa state, home to the powerful drug cartel of the same name that El Chapo headed before his extradition to the United States in 2017.

Old Nazi map sparks treasure hunt in the Netherlands
The archive said the map was believed to indicate where Nazi soldiers had hidden four large boxes filled with diamonds, rubies, gold, silver and all sorts of jewellery which they had looted after an explosion at a bank in August 1944.
Experienced detectorist Jan Henzen, who lives in nearby Amerongen, said he had spent decades combing the area, making finds including Roman artefacts.

U.S. House speaker fight enters fourth day amid antebellum-era dysfunction
This week's 11 failed votes marked the highest number of ballots for the speakership since the late 1850s. But McCarthy rejected a suggestion it meant he would be a weak leader if he succeeded. "Apparently, I like to make history," he joked.
The California Republican faces a party rift between an overwhelming majority of House Republicans who support him and 20 hardline conservatives who continue to oppose him, even after McCarthy offered to curb his own clout.

Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupts again, summit crater glows
Kilauea is one of the world's most active volcanoes. It last erupted for 16 months starting in September 2021. For about two weeks starting Nov. 27, Hawaii had two volcanoes spewing lava side by side when Mauna Loa erupted for the first time in 38 years. Both volcanoes stopped erupting at about the same time.
During the twin eruption, visitors to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park were able to see lava from both eruptions at the same time.

Europe’s inflation slows again but cost of living still high
The latest numbers indicate that the energy crisis may be easing for now. Energy price rises slowed to 25.7%, down from 34.9% in November and 41.5% in October.
Natural gas prices have slipped from all-time highs this summer as Europe has largely filled its storage for winter with supplies from other countries while warmer-than-usual weather has reduced fears of a shortage during the heating season.

Premium Android phones to soon get satellite connectivity
It implies that mobile devices can communicate with passing satellites to transmit and receive messages in areas without cell coverage. The new collaboration will make the same service available to millions of additional smartphone users without tying them to a specific brand - but it will be up to the manufacturer to enable it.
