Pakistan seeks IMF bailout to stave off economic collapse
The country of over 220 million is facing the worst economic crisis and was in talks with the international lender to secure another bailout, by making stringent reforms demanded by its mission.
IMF officials were in the South Asian nation for over a week time to sort out the differences over fiscal policy as the government made desperate attempts to unlock the much-needed funds as forex reserves plunged to critical levels.

Ukraine barred from using SpaceX tech for drones
SpaceX has privately shipped truckloads of Starlink terminals to Ukraine, allowing the country’s military to communicate by plugging them in and connecting them with the nearly 4,000 satellites SpaceX has launched into low-Earth orbit so far.
Governments including the United States and France have paid for other shipments of Starlink terminals on top of those funded privately by SpaceX.

Uganda to terminate mandate of UN rights office
The Ugandan authorities informed the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in a letter sent on February 3, consulted by AFP, stating that "the government will continue its cooperation with the OHCHR headquarters directly or through its permanent mission in Geneva.
The decision was criticized by Muwada Nkunungi, a member of the National Unity Platform led by Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, one of the main opponents of President Yoweri Museveni.

Australia to remove Chinese surveillance cameras amid security fears
The move comes after Britain in November asked its departments to stop installing Chinese-linked surveillance cameras at sensitive buildings. Some US states have banned vendors and products from several Chinese technology companies.
Opposition lawmaker James Paterson said on Thursday his own audit had revealed almost 1,000 units of equipment by Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology and Dahua Technology Co – two partly state-owned Chinese firms – were installed across more than 250 Australian government offices.

Brazil pushes illegal miners out of Yanomami territory
The federal government has declared a public health emergency for the Yanomami people, who are suffering from malnutrition and diseases such as malaria as a consequence of illegal mining.
A report published yesterday by the Health Ministry found that gold miners have invaded four clinics inside Yanomami territory, leaving them inoperational. In the city of Boa Vista, where starving and sick Indigenous people have been medevaced to a temporary medical facility, there are 700 Yanomami, more than three times its capacity.

Netflix lays out plans to crack down on account sharing
The video-streaming giant, which has estimated that 100 million around the world use a shared account, said that members can now easily manage who has access to their account, transfer profile to a new account and still easily watch Netflix on their personal devices or log into a new TV.
The company lost subscribers in the first half of 2022 amidst stiff competition from rivals, prompting it to look more seriously into password sharing and launching an ad-supported plan.
