Strong 6.8 magnitude earthquake strikes Tajikistan, near border with China
The quake’s epicentre appeared to be in Gorno-Badakhshan, a semi-autonomous eastern region that borders Afghanistan and China, about 67 kilometres from the small mountain town of Murghob.
A 5.0-magnitude aftershock hit the area about 20 minutes after the initial quake, followed by a 4.6-magnitude quake.

Afghanistan’s Taliban reopen key trade route with Pakistan
The Taliban said it shut the Torkham crossing over Islamabad allegedly denying Afghan migrants entry into Pakistan for medical care.
Pakistan, meanwhile, accuses the Taliban of sheltering armed attackers belonging to the outlawed Pakistan Taliban, also known by the acronym TTP. The Afghan Taliban rejects the claim.

R. Kelly to learn if he effectively gets ‘life’ sentence
Jurors in Chicago convicted Kelly last year on six of 13 counts — three counts of producing child porn and three of enticement of minors for sex. Kelly was acquitted of the marquee count, alleging he successfully rigged his 2008 state child pornography trial.

Thousands of nurses in Slovenia striked over low salaries and stressful working conditions on Wednesday. The protest rally was organised by the Trade Union of Nursing which coordinates over 6300 Slovenian nurses.

Gaza rockets and Israeli strikes follow deadly West Bank raid
The bloodshed extends one of the deadliest periods in years in the West Bank, where dozens of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the start of the year. Palestinian attacks on Israelis in 2023 have killed 11 people.
