Argentina will fight dengue with atomic radiation
Argentina, fighting one of its worst outbreaks of dengue in recent years, is sterilizing mosquitoes using radiation that alters their DNA before releasing them into the wild. The country has this year recorded over 41,000 cases of the disease transmitted by mosquitoes, far above the equivalent level in previous years of major outbreaks in 2020 and 2016, government data showed.

Sudan hospitals struggle with casualties, damage in fighting
Khartoum's hospitals have been thrown into chaos by the explosion of violence between Sudan's two top generals. People have been unable to leave their homes since Saturday as the two sides' engaged in gun battles and bombarded each other with artillery and airstrikes. More than 180 people have been killed and over 1,800 wounded since the fighting erupted, UN envoy Volker Perthes said.

Secret Chinese police station in New York leads to arrests
The men, identified as "Harry" Lu Jianwang, 61, of the Bronx, and Chen Jinping, 59, of Manhattan, both U.S. citizens, were acting under the direction and control of a Chinese government official and deleted communication with that official from their phones after learning of the FBI's probe in an apparent effort to obstruct the inquiry, according to the Justice Department.

Soaring temperatures bring school closures in parts of India
Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, recorded temperatures of 40C on April 13 and and 41C on April 14, more than 5 degrees above normal for the time of year, said GK Das, an official at the state weather office, told Reuters. India is likely to experience heat waves between March and May, the national weather office said in February.
