Ghana patients in danger as nurses head for NHS in UK
The recruitment of nurses by high-income countries from poorer nations is "out of control", according to the head of one of the world's biggest nursing groups. Many specialist nurses have left the West African country for better paid jobs overseas.
In 2022 more than 1,200 Ghanaian nurses joined the UK's nursing register. This comes as the National Health Service (NHS) increasingly relies on staff from non-EU countries to fill vacancies.

Hollywood actors authorize strike as writers still out
The strike authorization was approved by an overwhelming margin — nearly 98% of the 65,000 members who cast votes.
The WGA agenda includes increased pay, better residuals and minimum staffing requirements. One key area of overlap between all is artificial intelligence. The DGA said they’d reached a “groundbreaking agreement confirming that AI is not a person and that generative AI cannot replace the duties performed by members.”

Is it real or made by AI? Europe wants a label for that as it fights disinformation
The European Union is pushing online platforms like Google and Meta to step up the fight against false information by adding labels to text, photos and other content generated by artificial intelligence, a top official said Monday.
EU Commission Vice President Vera Jourova said the ability of a new generation of AI chatbots to create complex content and visuals in seconds raises “fresh challenges for the fight against disinformation.”

Lula to halt Amazon deforestation, make Brazil “global reference” on climate
This strategy, set to be implemented over four years, provides a roadmap to achieve the ambitious goal of halting illegal deforestation in Brazil by 2030. Lula’s term ends Jan. 1, 2027, so full implementation would depend on the willingness of whoever comes after him to continue the work.

US sues Binance and founder Zhao over 'web of deception'
U.S. regulators have targeted another giant in the world of crypto. The Securities and Exchange Commission has filed 13 charges against Binance, the world's top crypto exchange, as well as its billionaire co-founder and CEO, Changpeng Zhao, who is widely know as CZ. It's the latest in a string of actions being taken against crypto companies.

Water crisis in the Middle East: Potential for war or factor of peace?
An agreement dating from 1973 governs the equitable distribution of Helmand's waters. But recently, the Iranians accused the Taliban of violating this agreement, and on May 27, they penalized them by starting a skirmish which – although resulting in the death of men – did not result in an extended conflict. This time around, at least.
